The Walking Dead season 10 left fans with a lot of burning questions given its cliffhanger ending. With season 11 being the last for the AMC show, there is a lot of story to cover when it comes to the likes of Daryl (played by Norman Reedus), Carol (Melissa McBride) and the rest of the survivors before the finale’s credits hit. Now, thanks to a handful of reveals from TWD, fans have some clues as to how the final run will start.
How will season 11 of The Walking Dead start?
Anticipation for The Walking Dead has never been higher ahead of the release of season 11.
After over a decade as one of the most popular series on TV, the zombie series is coming to a final end.
With it comes a lot of speculation on what the season will involve, namely how it will end and who may die.
However, details on how it will begin have also been teased, with Daryl Dixon star Norman Reedus suggesting there will be a major difference for season 11.
Speaking to TVLine, Reedus explained how the 11th season will look very different for fans and that the characters are in very different places.
“It’s sort of in Technicolor all of a sudden and it takes some getting used to, which you can see in our group [of survivors] — we’re having trouble getting used to it, too,” Reedus explained.
Melissa McBride, who plays Carol in the series, also revealed how the season will open.
Following the events of season 10, Carol and Daryl are struggling to retain their close friendship, especially as Daryl believes she killed Connie (Lauren Ridloff).
Carol is also distant from Daryl because she discovered he was considering leaving the group, wanting to run away with his old partner Leah (Lynn Collins).
McBride added: “At the beginning, they’re still working to make amends and build trust again. I think most everything they went through was understood, so it’s not really making amends so much as getting comfortable and sort of crawling back into that [rapport].
“Carol’s sort of got her tail between her legs a little bit, but she’s like, ‘We need to work this out, and we will – over time, little by little.”
One of the other major cliffhangers at the end of season 10 was the appearance of soldiers dressed in white armour.
Many fans immediately compared them to Storm Troopers from Star Wars, but these are instead soldiers from the Commonwealth – another group of survivors from the TWD comic books.
It also seems likely Daryl and Carol will make up, as there are plans by AMC to create a spin-off focussing on the two characters.
A release date hasn’t been confirmed, but the show is expected to arrive in 2023.
This is also the Rick Grimes movie that has been announced, with Andrew Lincoln returning to take on the iconic role.
There is hope Grimes will come back in season 11, with it being the perfect time to re-introduce the character ahead of the film.
Since its announcement, there have been limited updates on the state of the film, though all signs suggest it is still on track to release in the future.
Despite season 11 being the last for the original show, both Fear the Walking Dead and Walking Dead: World Beyond are both set to continue.
The Walking Dead season 11 premieres August 22 on AMC in the USA. The UK release date is August 23 on Star on Disney Plus.
