Tom Fletcher has made it past the halfway point on Strictly Come Dancing and the show returns tonight on BBC One. Along with his partner Amy Dowden, he impressed the judging panel with his flawless Pasodoble last week. Professional dancer Gary Edwards spoke to about Tom’s future in the competition.

The competition is getting tougher each week as more couples are forced to dance again in the dreaded Strictly dance-off.

At this stage, it is anyone’s win for the taking and there have been some surprising results.

Last week it was Adam Peaty and Katya Jones who said goodbye in a shock exit, having gone up against TV chef Tilly Ramsay.

Many fans believe neither couple should have been in the bottom as the level of skill last week was shown across the board.

Another star who excelled hitself was McFly’s Tom Fletcher, who adored learning the dramatic Paso.

All of the judges were bowled over by his performance and he was given an overall score of 38 points.

He ended up in second place on the leaderboard and his wife Giovanna was left in tears.

However professional dancer and judge, Gary Edwards, says he may have reached his peak in the competition.

The Dancing With The Stars expert said: “Tom and Amy’s Paso – I don’t know where that came from.

“But it literally changed me from thinking he should be one of the bottom two at some point soon to, for me, thinking it was his best dance ever.

“Pasodoble is my favourite dance and probably my best dance being six-foot-four.

“He absolutely nailed it, his hands and his arms were absolutely amazing.”

He went on to say the star’s success may have reached its peak, feeling as if he would not be able to beat the score.

Gary continued: “I don’t think they are going to top that. It was their best performance of the season.

“I don’t think they are going to do better than that. He got it absolutely spot on – that was my big shocker.”

Following his impressive performance, Tom took to Instagram and thank his fans for their support.

He said: “Thank you so much for voting us through this week. I had the best time learning this incredible Paso Doble last week.

“And loved dancing it last night with @amy_dowden. Blown away to get our first 10s and looking forward to working hard this week at a brand new dance. @bbcstrictly.”

His wife Giovanna apologised to fans for giving away Tom’s next dance on Zoe Ball’s BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show.

She said: “So now it’s the Viennese Waltz for him, it’s a very different pace to the Paso Doble, but it was incredible watching him.”

She then took to Tom’s Instagram story to apologise for her mishap.

Hopefully, he will not be following in Adam and Katya’s footsteps this weekend and will continue his winning streak.

Adam’s exit from the series has caused a stir online, with many fans believing they should have stayed.

Match’s relationship expert, Hayley Quinn, highlighted the strong friendship the pair developed over the course of the series.

She told “Over the weeks Katya has coached Adam in her usual direct style, commenting that ‘you can smile… but not too much.’

“However, what felt like frustration at the start had melted into admiration by the time this pair left the show on the weekend which was made obvious by the way they looked at each other, not only whilst dancing but through discussing their emotions in the pre-dance VT.”
