Clare Crawley’s season of The Bachelorette made many headlines before the show even started. Not only was the 2020 season postponed due to COVID-19, but then there were all the rumors about Clare finding love immediately after filming started, ditching the show completely, and a new Bachelorette being brought in. Whew!
Aside from the lead of the show, though, there are always some unique suitors who walk into the Bachelor mansion. Former Bachelorette contestant (and Bachelor himself) Peter Weber’s profession as a pilot, while fascinating, pales in comparison to what some of the jobs the other contestants have touted. Who could forget Season 10 of The Bachelor‘s Peyton Wright, a sorority recruiter? Or maybe Blake Elarbee from Rachel Lindsay’s season of The Bachelorette, who was an aspiring drummer. Not an actual drummer, just an aspiring one. (We love the enthusiasm.)
Clare’s suitors have some standard jobs, but one of the contestants is already jumping out at us, thanks to the job title he has on his ABC bio. Meet Blake Monar: male grooming specialist.
Blake Monar is the founder and CEO of his own hair care brand
Blake Monar — who is vying for Clare Crawley’s heart on The Bachelorette (and will eventually be vying for Tayshia Adams’ when the show pivots, we assume) — didn’t always dream of being a male grooming specialist. According to his bio on ABC, he actually had dreams of being a baseball player. In 2008, Blake was drafted by the New York Yankees in their 26th round, per his alma mater’s website, but played for Indiana University’s team instead. He got signed to the Washington Nationals in 2011, but was then dropped down to the minor leagues to play for the Auburn Doubledays.
However, a “debilitating neuromuscular injury” forced Blake to retire after just two years, according to ABC. Rather than wallow, Blake moved to Phoenix to open his own business specializing in grooming. His company Statum Style is “100% all-natural, cruelty free, non-toxic,” according to the brand’s Instagram, and caters to both men and women. The hair care products are designed to promote sophistication and simplicity, per the brand’s mission.
How Blake’s unisex hair care brand translates to his official Bachelorette bio labeling him as a “male grooming specialist” remains unclear, but we imagine we’ll find out more once he’s on the show. Perhaps he’ll share with Clare (or Tayshia) and the rest of the mansion about his male grooming habits? Per his bio, he’s also a big fan of pancakes — so maybe he’ll whip up some of those as well.
