Money Heist, or La Casa De Papel, will be returning to Netflix for its fifth season on September 3, 2021. The Spanish crime drama series continues to follow the gang of misfits as they lock themselves in the Bank of Spain. Moscow (played by Paco Tous) left the series in season two and fans are keen to know why.
Why did Moscow leave Money Heist?
Moscow, or Agustin Ramos, was one of the eight robbers during the Royal Mint of Spain heist in the first season.
He was also the father of Denver (Jaime Lorente), one of the other main gang members from the series debut.
Moscow had worked as a miner but started using his tools to rob banks.
In season two, viewers learned how his wife had a drug addiction and he left her.
He became the father figure of the group and would do anything in order to protect his son.
Fans also admired the way he stood up for his views and voiced his opinions when he needed to.
Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó), the main protagonist, grew close to Moscow and she respected him for his kind nature.
His last appearance was in episode eight of the second season when he was shot dead by police.
He had been caught up in a fatal shoot-out outside the Royal Mint of Spain, and later appeared in flashbacks.
No real reason has been given as to why Moscow was written out of the series.
From this, it means it was purely a creative decision as it paved the way for Denver’s story to develop.
Since leaving La Casa De Papel, the Spanish actor went on to star in the series 30 Monedas and film Madres Amor y visa.
Back in 2018, he was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor in TV Series award at the Premios Feroz for his role in Money Heist.
Fans were gutted to lose such a special character and they took to Reddit to air their grievances.
One said: “Nobody cares about Moscow? This character is so great, he had such a great personality.
“And I was sadder when Moscow died than when Berlin died. He was caring for his son and for the entire crew, and I think it’s the best of all heisters (if we don’t count the professor, which is, in my opinion, an even better character).”
His death has been described as the saddest of the series so far and he is sorely missed by fans.
Another viewer commented: “He was definitely the father-figure of the group, a death that touched everyone’s hearts.
“I was impressed with his character, throughout the series his influence on the others just naturally grew in an organic way unlike Berlin’s authority.”
He was admired for his gentle nature, with another fan adding: “Moscow’s death left me sobbing! I’ll miss his wisdom and sweetness.”
Followers of the series can still keep up to date with the actor’s latest ventures via his social media accounts.
Most recently, he has been sharing memories from his time as part of the Spanish series Los hombres de Paco.
In the show, he played Francisco “Paco” Miranda Ramos from 2005 to 2010 and returned again this year, 2021, for season 10.
The series had seen an 11-year hiatus but was picked up by a new network, ATRESplayer Premium.
Money Heist season 5 will air on Netflix on September 3.
