On Saturday night, the Coronation Street star and his Strictly Come Dancing partner Nancy Xu will be dancing the Waltz to Three Times a Lady by the Commodores. They joined It Takes Two presenter Rylan Clarke to discuss their upcoming performance, where Will explained that he couldn’t concentrate during their first training session today due to thinking about his father who died in 2020.

Speaking about their upcoming dance, Rylan said: “You are still here and you are improving. And this week you are going to be taking on the Waltz, and you are dancing to this banger!”

As a snippet of the song came to an end, he continued: “You have only had a few hours of training today, what have we learnt or done, how are we getting on and are you liking it?”

Taking in a big sigh, Will admitted: “Yeah, it is tough. It is good, it is a very emotional song for me, means a lot to me this song.

“So it has been an emotional day, it has been a bit of a cloud, so she has been trying to teach me and I have not been myself because I have been a bit emotional but, how has it been?”

Wanting to know more about why it had taken a toll on him, Rylan added: “I take it for personal reasons?”

Will continued: “Yeah, it was the song my dad used to sing to my mum and I didn’t choose the song, they sort of said ‘do you want to do it?’ but it is just.

“It means a lot and what is very strange is, when you go through grief, you think you can talk about things and you think you can hear songs and all of a sudden it hits you like a tonne of bricks.

“And this routine, I was dancing with her today and it just, I was in bits but do you know what it will be an honour on the night to do it.

“I just hope that I can hold it together and that I can concentrate because today my head was all over the place but.”

On Saturday night, Will and Nancy performed the Quick Step Soda Pop by Robbie Williams featuring Michael Bublé.

However, after a tough week of training, the pair only scored 33 out of a possible 40 and left the pair disappointed.

Talking about their scores from the weekend, Will told Rylan: “Honestly I can’t control the scores.

“I thought I did the best I could and honestly, I look at Nancy when we finish the dance and I think if she is happy if my teacher is happy then that is all that matters.

“I know I have done her proud and that is all I want to do. The scores I can’t change the, I hoped they would have been better but you know I always want to be better than I am.

“I always try and push myself and see how far I can go. I am loving this journey and loving every second of it and I want to show that I am improving.”

Despite the couple being a little let down with their scores, Will and Nancy made it through to week eight with the votes of the public.

Unfortunately, the Strictly journey for Ellie Simmonds and her partner Nikkita Kuzmin came to an end after they were booted from the show.

Touching on her journey, Ellie told Tess Daly: “I’ve literally had the time of my life. It’s been the most incredible experience – life-changing really.

“I want to thank Nikita ever so much. I’m going to miss him – he’s changed my life and confidence. He’s [Nikita] changed my life. We’ve had the most amazing days.

“We’ve had not just dancing days – but days we’ve just spoken for hours. And the confidence you’ve given me – I seem confident but you know what I’m like, I worry about everything so so much.

“We’ve literally represented everything. We went out there and danced our life out every single night and I loved it so much.”

Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday from 6:30pm on BBC One, followed by the results show on Sunday.
