A recent post on Instagram has prompted viewers to request more flashback moments in the upcoming fourth season on Yellowstone. When the series finally returns to Paramount and Peacock, could Kayce’s time as a Navy SEAL finally be revealed?

Production on the fourth season of Yellowstone is continuing in Montana, raising hopes the next episodes will manage to keep its June 2021 deadline despite coronavirus delays.

The modern Western’s next instalment is its most anticipated yet after the stunning events of this year’s season finale.

Assuming he survives the attacks, Kayce Dutton (played by Luke Grimes) could embark on a campaign of revenge after being targeted by unknown gunmen.

Meanwhile, both his father, John (Kevin Costner) and sister, Beth (Kelly Reilly) were also left with their lives hanging in the balance at the end of the new season.

As tensions mount on Dutton Ranch, Yellowstone’s growing audience have started to learn more and more about the dysfunctional family’s complicated history.

Following some revealing flashbacks centred on Beth’s messy relationship with her adopted brother, Jamie (Wes Bentley), fans have been calling for the series to return to the past more frequently in the upcoming season.

Moreover, a post from Yellowstone’s official Instagram post today paid tribute to Veterans Day by addressing Kayce’s service as a Navy SEAL.

The picture featured the ranch hand on horseback and was captioned: “In the world of #YellowstoneTV, Kayce Dutton is a former Navy SEAL.”

Yellowstone’s recognition of Kayce’s service received some heated comments from fans, who have demanded more flashbacks in the next season to showcase his time in the US military.

Some viewers have been frustrated by the series so far as, despite being haunted by a harrowing mission in Pakistan, the full extent of Kayce’s traumatising experiences have yet to be explored.

During his Navy SEAL days, a priority target shielded himself with his wife and daughter, forcing Kayce to fire back and ultimately killing the entire family.

His experiences have hung over Kayce like a shadow throughout the series, but fans still know far less about his origins before the start of the series than they do about his siblings.

Season three revealed Jamie forced his teenage sister to undergo an abortion procedure which left her sterilised without her permission, but there could be even more flashback confessionals to come when Yellowstone returns.

Several fans took to the comments to suggest how the fourth season could be improved by exploring Kayce’s background.

One follower said: “I so hope that Yellowstone will provide us a bit more info on Kayce’s time in the service. It’s such an important part of his character.”

And another agreed and added: “Absolutely agree, maybe some flashback scenes to grease up his character a bit wouldn’t be a bad idea.”

As the Duttons gear up to take revenge on their unknown attackers in season four, Kayce may need to draw on his time in the military to track down the family’s rivals and take them out.

Now the ranch is in the process of being sold and all-out war has been declared on the family, Kayce’s combat history could serve him well if he manages to recover from his trauma.

Yellowstone will return with season 4 in 2021 on Paramount and Peacock.
