Joe Goldberg (played by Penn Badgely) made his huge comeback to Netflix alongside his wife Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti) and child, which completely shifted the version of the Joe viewers originally met in season one. However, one thing which was certain to remain was the glass cage where many met their demise, but this time the survivors have spoken out about their experience.

Unlike most of Joe’s many victims, there was a small number of people who were able to make it out of his cage alive.

This season viewers watched as the seemingly happy couple caged their new best friends Cary (Travis Van Winkle) and Sherry Conrad (Shalita Grant) after their swinger party went wrong.

However, due to Joe and Love’s own trust issues, Sherry noticed there was a keyhole on the inside, therefore releasing there had to be a spare key hidden inside.

Lo and behold she was correct, just when she was about to give up, having rummaged through Love’s bulk of baking ingredients she discovered the key in the midst of scattered flour.

The couple were initially locked in the cage after overhearing Love and Joe’s argument, where she confessed to killing their neighbour Natalie Engler (Michaela McManus).

In an interview with TV Line, Shalita highlighted: “We not only survived, but we thrived.”

“We were the first caged couple!” Grant says. “That was one of the first things that Sera Gamble, our brilliant showrunner, told us. We were going to be making history within this series as the first caged couple.”

Viewers watched as the seemingly perfect couple got vulnerable, panicked and almost killed each other as they tried to escape the cage.

The actor added: “All of their layers were peeled back when they got into that cage, and what you realize is that they’re a damn good team.”

“It was so iconic to be in that damn cage, let me tell you, but it was even more iconic to make it out,” he added.

It was completely opposite to the image the couple had portrayed in their small, elite town of Madre Linda.

Sherry was a stereotypical mommy influencer who blogged about her perfect family while ensuring she was at the centre of everything that happened to update her readers online.

Her husband Cary was the wealthy and healthy founder of a supplement company, the self-proclaimed “master of self-optimisation” who made it his duty to make the men feel like their primal selves.

Grant confessed: “When I found out we were going to survive, I was like, ‘God damn it’, I’ve never died on camera, and I was practising how I was going to die.

The actor explained: “But when we got into the thick of it — once we got to Episode 6 or 7 — I was like, ‘Of course these people are going to survive!’

“These are two people who know they’re going to succeed in life. I also thought it was very poetic that while they survived this dehumanizing situation, the house of Love had to burn down,” he concluded.

Sure enough, they succeeded, viewers watched the final episode as they both made it out alive, sold their story, went on a book tour and gave pretentious TED Talks about their near-death experience.

As for the Goldbergs, Joe gave up their son to a trusted colleague, while he killed Love, faked his death in a house fire and moved to France to find his true love.

While the ending sets up for a fourth season, will be updated with release information.
