BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker, 44, seems to already be on the hunt for a new co-star as he reached out to Alex Scott, 36, following Louise Minchin’s announcement. Speaking to viewers today, the latter revealed she will be stepping down after 20 years on the show.

The presenter added she was looking forward to no longer setting her 3am alarm for the morning job.

Following her revelation, her co-star Dan jokingly asked Alex if she minded early starts.

His query came after the football pundit took to Twitter to announce her new role alongside Dermot O’Leary.

She wrote: “Say what!!!!!

“I get to Co-present @socceraid this year alongside the one and only @radioleary.

“This is going to be so much fun… can’t b****y wait… ekkkkkk Sept 4th – tickets on sale now.”(sic)

Dan shared the post on his Twitter page, writing: “What are you like with early starts?”

Alex replied with a series of crying with laughter emojis, adding: “I love you @mrdanwalker, but it’s a no from me.”

The BBC Breakfast star shared an emotional post following his co-star’s announcement today.

He commented: “This feels like a break-up. What am I going to do without Louise?

“Thank you for all the lovely messages after an emotional morning on #BBCBreakfast – I’m sure Louise will get to read them all later.

“My life will be poorer without her on the sofa. She’s the best.”

Louise replied: “I am going to miss you @mrdanwalker.

“You have always had my back, including today, and it has been an absolute pleasure to be sitting on that red sofa with you. Thank you x.”

Last month, the host announced he will be stepping down from Football Focus after 12 years.

It was later revealed Alex will be taking over from his role on the Saturday show.

After the news was announced on air, the former Arsenal player turned to Dan and said: “You knew from five years ago the position I wanted to be in and you helped push me out of my comfort zone.

“And you’re always there as support for me,” she added while also thanking Dion by her side.

“The person you are as a human being is everything,” she went on to say of her co-star.

“I don’t think it gets reflected enough on programmes like this.”
