JoJo Siwa‘s makeup kit has been recalled from Claire’s locations after the powder eye shadow colors tested positive for asbestos, a toxic mineral that is incredibly dangerous when inhaled or ingested, and can even cause mesothelioma, an aggressive type of cancer.
The national tween accessories store said in a statement to USA TODAY that “trace amounts of asbestos fibers” were found in the YouTuber‘s eye shadow colors in the kit carried at their retailer.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration wrote in a tweet (below) accompanied by a photo of the sparkly set:
“Today, the FDA is releasing new results from its continued testing of cosmetic products for asbestos & is warning consumers to not use 2 additional products that have tested positive for asbestos & have been recalled”
In the statement provided by Claire’s, the retailer wrote that they have “voluntarily recalled the JoJo Cosmetic Kit out of an abundance of caution.” The company continued (below):
“Claire’s stands behind the safety of this item and all other Claire’s cosmetic items, as such small trace amounts are considered acceptable under European and Canadian cosmetic safety regulations.” the company said by email. “In addition, last year Claire’s moved to talc-free cosmetic manufacturing to prevent any further concerns about talc contamination. Claire’s also supports increased FDA oversight of personal care products. We will provide a full refund to any customers who purchased the product.”
According to USA TODAY, this wasn’t the only product recalled recently due to testing positive for asbestos. A second product from Beauty Plus called “Global Contour Effects Palette 2” has tested positive, though there are no other details at this time of where the palette was sold.
Kim Kardashian West better make sure North West (AKA a JoJo super fan) doesn’t have this kit!! And consumers who purchased the product can read more about the recall on the FDA‘s website.
As we previously reported, the former Dance Moms star decided to turn off her Instagram comments in early May due to an influx of mean messages coming her way:
“Instagram comments are my favorite thing! Wait no that’s wrong. Normally I read comments and see nice things, people sending kind messages and saying positive words, late last night I decided to read some comments on my last Instagram post and wow… some people can be mean. So here’s a fun game, No more comments! ? JoJo”
However, her comments were only turned off for a few posts before the ability was turned back on again and the High Top Shoes singer headed on tour.
She might want to reconsider given this news…
