When Tristan Thompson cheated on Khloe Kardashian, it rocked the reality star’s world. Since the couple shares a daughter together, their relationship became more complicated after their breakup. Kardashian recently shared how she’s healing after their split and why she feels it’s important that Thompson is still in daughter True’s life.
Kardashian discusses how she co-parents with Thompson
Despite the circumstances of their split, Kardashian knowsthat their daughter True is a big part of the equation that can’t beoverlooked.
During an interview on the On Purpose With Jay Shetty podcast, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star admitted that it would be “easier” for her to cut off all ties with Thompson but it can’t work that way.
Kardashian explained, “I want to show my daughter that it’sokay and it’s a beautiful thing to also forgive her dad.” She added: “He’s agreat person. Maybe him and I weren’t compatible or whatever [in] that way, butthat’s okay. Nobody’s gonna die here, and I always want True to be surroundedby love.”
She continued, explaining, “And I know babies feel energy… and I just want her to always feel just bliss, as much as I can. I know it’s not realistic every day, but as much as I can control it, I feel like it’s my mama-bear job to control it.”
Kardashian admitted, “Oh, it’s hard — it’s not easy for me. Youknow, it would be easier for me to keep my daughter away and be like, ‘No,’cause you hurt me.’”
Her perspective is that, while he hurt her, “he never hurt True,” adding, “Him and I have our own relationship, and then Tristan and True have theirs, and I will never come in between that. I don’t believe in that.”
Kardashian has co-parenting role models
Kardashian shared that this perspective on co-parentingcomes from her parents, Kris Jenner and Robert Kardashian, as she noted theywere “incredible co-[parents], from what I know,” adding, “My mom and my dad,I’m sure, fought all the time. [But] not around us.”
Of course, her sister Kourtney Kardashian actively practices solid co-parenting with her ex Scott Disick. The couple, who are parents to Reign, Mason, and Penelope, have mastered co-parenting.
Kardashian shared: “As long as it’s not hurting you in any way… if this was hindering Kourtney’s growth or if it hinders my growth, then you also have to put yourself first because you are, in fact, taking care of your children.”
She added: “But if it’s not hindering you or hurting you in any way, I think it’s important to work on all relationships.”
She called True “a healthy distraction”
Dating isn’t on Kardashian’s radar right now, as she’s content with being a mom. She told Shetty: “I absolutely love being a mom, it’s one of my favorite things. About 8 months ago, I had a breakup and so figuring out… I think people are so good at distracting and I’ve really chosen to not distract myself or try to not distract myself. Maybe people can say True would be a distraction, but if anything, she’s a healthy distraction.”
She added, “I haven’t jumped into dating. I don’t careto date right now. I’m not in a rush for it. I feel so good in my life and Idon’t really need much else. So, something that I’m focusing on is justmaking sure that I process everything.”
