Steph McGovern, 38, took a swipe at her co-star Ian Hislop, 60, while discussing this week’s UK local elections 2021 on Have I Got News For You. The Channel 4 presenter, who returns to front the BBC show this evening, quipped that Ian wouldn’t be aware of what Argos is as she admitted to enjoying stealing pencils from the shop and from polling stations.

Steph, who was filming the programme yesterday alongside Ian, Paul Merton, and guest panelists Zoe Lyons and John Pienaar, addressed the events that had taken place so far on “Super Thursday”.

She told viewers: “It’s Super Thursday, it really was, wasn’t it?”

Ian went on to bring up the fact that local polling stations had asked people to bring their own pencils for the first time, due to hygiene rules implemented because of the coronavirus pandemic.

He told the panel: “It was pretty super in the polling booth I went to!

“I took my own pencil.”

Steph exclaimed: “Oh yes, because you’re meant to for hygiene reasons.”

“You’ve got to be very careful now, you don’t want to share it,” Ian replied with a grimace.

However, Steph admitted the new rule was somewhat disappointing for her.

She said: “I know, but don’t you enjoy, when you go to a polling station, taking the pencils?

“Like, do you remember at Argos as well, did you ever go…”

Steph then mischievously turned to Ian and joked: “Do you know what Argos is, Ian?”

“You lost me on taking the pencils,” Ian revealed, as giggles could be heard around the BBC studio.

Defending her point, Steph insisted: “That’s the joy of it!”

The star chimed in the preview clip shared by the show’s official Twitter page: “He sometimes gets confused between Argos and voting because the last time he voted, he left with a fridge freezer!”

Meanwhile, Steph took to Instagram to share her excitement over hosting Have I Got News For You again.

The Steph’s Packed Lunch presenter shared a series of snaps of herself from the episode, during which she wore a blue sky-inspired jumper covered in a white cloud print.

She penned in view of her 23,000 followers: “Tonight on the telly – I’m hosting ‘Have I Got News For You’ on @bbcone at 9pm.

“This will be my 7th time hosting the show. I still pinch myself every time I hear the theme music start!
