Hollywood star Renee Zellweger looked totally different as she morphed into character wearing a controversial "fat suit" for her latest movie.

The Bridget Jones actress, 52 can also be spotted donning facial prosthetics and a wig in her portrayal of convicted murderer Pam Hupp in The Thing About Pam, which is currently being filmed in New Orleans.

It is based on the brutal killing of Betsy Faria, which resulted in husband Russ' wrongful conviction for murder and later sees the decision overturned.

The crime set off a chain of events that would expose a diabolical scheme involving Hupp, who in 2019 was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility for parole.

The movie also stars Josh Duhamel as Joel Schwartz, the defence attorney for Faria’s husband Russ.

In the scene, Zellweger recreates real-life events, from the case files, where Hupp was caught by security cameras at a gas station close to her home in O'Fallon, Missouri.

She can be seen drinking from a large Chill Chugz drinks cup as she stepped out in a white puffa jacket, jeans and snow boots.

Looking transformed from her usual svelte toned frame, Renee's physique appeared much bigger as she donned a large body-suit undergarment.

In her bid to recreate the appearance of a cold blooded killer, the Hollywood star even donned a prosthetic nose.

The film set even made sure to have snow on the ground, despite filming in the Louisiana humid warmth of 74F (23C).

The slim actress had in the past decided against the idea of wearing the controversial fat suit and instead opted to gain weight for specific roles by bulk eating.

For two Bridget Jones films, Renee admitted to consuming 4,000 calories per day in a big to put on a staggering two stone in weight in just a short space of time.

At the Bafta's in 2004, Renee explained that yo-yo dieting could "kill her" if she attempted to gain a significant amount of weight for third movie.

She said: "Can I just tell you my body is whacked by the time we finish one of those.

"It doesn't know what has happened because it thinks there's supposed to be a baby and there's no christening."

The actress added: "I had a panic attack with all the specialists talking about how bad this is for you, long term, putting on that much weight in short periods of time and they're all saying, 'You must stop this now or you're going to die'."
