Below Deck has had a lot of memorable crewmates across its eight seasons and nine years run. Rachel Hargrove is another fan-favourite member of the ship, serving as head Chef. But who is Rachel Hargrove?

Who is Chef Rachel Hargrove in Below Deck?

Rachel Hargrove appeared in the last season of Below Deck – season eight across 2020 and 2021.

She is originally from Tampa, Florida and has an extensive history and career working with food.

Rachel attended the Culinary Institute of America and held an apprenticeship at the Michelin-starred restaurant Quantro Passi in Nerano, Italy.

Despite all this, Rachel is predominantly self-taught, bringing with her a dynamic and varied background to the ship.

Rachel is also well-traveled, giving her an experience of cuisines from around the globe.

She has lived in Italy, Thailand, Japan and India, all helping her to build on her craft of cooking.

The chef is well versed in many different forms of food, from molecular gastronomy to gluten-free-pasta, this makes her perfect for her time on the superyacht – she is prepared for any guest.

She is best known for her consummate professionalism and demanding performance in the kitchen, making her a polarizing figure on the ship.

Recently, Hargrove spoke with Decider about the season she spent on the ship in Below Deck, revealing that she is quite the food nerd.

She said: “I’m a nerd. And I’m okay with it! I’ve embraced it since a long time ago, getting my school bus chair kicked by other kids.

“Certain things, if I get interested in it, I throw myself completely into it. I immerse myself in it. And I enjoy it.”

She also revealed why she loved studying food and what inspires her within her culinary career.

She added: “What’s fascinating about food is, in the culinary world, it’s not just food. If you get bored with it after you’ve traveled and studied and you’ve applied it and you feel like going health and wellness, then that’s a whole other avenue.

“You can take it to the nutrition side. It’s an infinite Pandora’s box of peeling it back. Peelin’ back that onion and crying when you don’t have proper pans.

Below Deck has been hit hard by the current restrictions put in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The series, which relies on, travel and guests coming on the boat has had to wait until restrictions are eased before it can return for a ninth season.

Not much is known about season nine, or when it will finally release.

The season will most likely remain in the Caribbean again after seasons six and seven took the crew to Tahiti and Thailand.

Season eight returned to the Caribbean and season nine will likely stay there due to more limited travel.

The crew is also not confirmed for season nine, though it is likely most of the cast members will return, including Rachel Hargrove.

The show’s two spin-offs, Below Deck Mediterranean and Below Deck Sailing Yacht are also currently suffering delays, though all shows are likely to return.

Below Deck Mediterranean is expected to return this summer for season six, so there is still more sailing drama for fans to dive into.

Below Deck is available to watch on Bravo and Netflix.
