Emmerdale Christmas Preview 2020: Secrets revealed, huge shocks & big return

Christmas is a time for love, joy, hope and festivity. Unfortunately, those things are often in short supply in Emmerdale, but don’t worry, as there will be plenty of compelling drama, huge pay offs and superb stories in their place.

Yes, this festive season will no doubt thrill viewers across the nation.

In typical Emmerdale fashion, a number of huge stories will no doubt culminate over the Christmas period, while others will set the scene for an explosive New Year.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Producer Laura Shaw said: ‘We’ve got a really big fun Christmas and New Year coming up, and it’s jam-packed full of romance, disaster, comedy, heartbreak, shock twists and turns!

Here’s everything we’ve got to look forward to!

A huge secret is revealed

There’s nothing quite like a secret being unravelled like a Christmas present, and that’s most certainly what viewers will have to look forward to this year.

The secret in question remains, well, a secret for the time being, but Laura teased that viewers won’t see the reveal coming!

She said: ‘A huge secret is going to come out in a truly magnificent way that’s going to make everybody gasp, I promise you!

Executive producer Jane Hudson also teased a huge suprise during the festive episode, when she previously told Metro.co.uk: ‘Christmas Day, when Christmas Day is over and done with and you’ve opened all your presents, there’s a massive present when Emmerdale comes on.’

Jamie Tate gets his comeuppance?

One of the ITV soap’s biggest narratives this year has been the moral descent of Jamie Tate (Alexander Lincoln), who has more or less evolved into his mother, Kim (Claire King).

He’s set Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) up for a crime which she didn’t commit, turned against several villagers, gave up his rights to daughter Millie to secure his own freedom, and has stood by and watched as Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter) faces prison for the very crime he himself committed.

The Home Farm dweller has just about antagonised every resident of the eponymous village, but will he ultimately face the music?

If so, in what way will he do so? And who will carry out the perhaps inevitable revenge?

Kim’s return

Speaking of the Tate clan, the village just hasn’t been the same without mainstay and icon Kim, but fear not, as she’ll be back on our screens soon.

We can’t wait.

Teasing Kim’s return, Jane Hudson previously told us: ‘We’ve got Kim Tate back with us soon. Kim always has her eye on her next man and there is one lined up and I think that’s going to surprise people when they see where Kim goes next!’

Nicola and Jimmy’s lives are turned upside down

Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) and Jimmy (Nick Miles) will find themselves at the centre of a devastating new story in the months to come, one that will ‘turn their lives upside down’

Laura told us: ‘Jimmy and Nicola are going to get a really big shock in the New Year, which results in their whole lives being turned upside down.’

The question is: what’s in store for the couple? What’s more, will they be able to get through it?

Mandy, Paul and Vinny’s story continues

Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) has never been happier than she is right now, what with Paul Ashdale (Reece Dinsdale) and son Vinny (Bradley Johnson) all by her side and living under the one roof, but little does she know that her beau has been gambling once more.

Whether or not she discovers this remains to be seen, but the family in question will feature heavily next year.

Laura said: ‘We’ve just finished storylining a massive chapter in our big Mandy, Paul and Vinny story that’s on-screen now.

‘Keep watching to see how that plays out, because it’s going to be one of our really big stories in 2021. Lives are definitely going to be changed forever.’

Drama for Priya Kotecha and Al Chapman

Priya Kotecha (Fiona Wade) revealed that she believes Al Chapman (Michael Wildman) is ‘the one’ in recent episodes, and the two are finally on good terms once more following the reveal that Chas (Lucy Pargeter) had made a pass at him.

However, in spite of things going well, it appears as if there will be more conflict for the pair in the coming months.

ITV boss Kevin Lygo teased: ‘Priya is very much loved up with Al – but he seems distracted by someone else away from the village.’

Just who is this mystery person? What’s more, what is Al hiding?
