The Great British Bake Off has been running for 11 series now, with the winner of series 12 set to be unveiled later on Tuesday as the final airs on Channel 4. From law students to debt collectors, the show has had a host of Brits win the competition, though most of them are now known for their competitive baking skills. With more than 100 contestants having competed on the show, who are the most memorable bakers from the Great British Bake Off?

Great British Bake Off series one winner – Edd Kimber

Edd made his debut on the hit baking show back in 2010 while he was working as a debt collector in Yorkshire.

The 35-year-old spent six weeks impressing Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood in the bake off tent back when he was just a 24-year-old from Bradford.

Since being crowned the first-ever champion of the show, Edd has gone on to publish five cookbooks as well as making his mark as ‘resident baker’ on The Alan Titchmarsh Show.

Kimber is a regular contributor for a range of food magazines including Olive, BBC Good Food and Sainsbury’s, proving that his love for baking hasn’t wavered since his big win.

Nadiya Hussain

Winner of the show’s sixth series, Nadiya has risen to fame since her final bake on the show which won her the competition.

Nadiya has not stopped baking since being crowned champion of series six, having gone on to host her own cooking show – Nadiya Bakes, while making guest appearances on a host of TV shows.

Renowned as one of her ‘proudest moments’, Nadiya was appointed as the sole baker of Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday cake.

While Nadiya’s success since the show is nothing short of inspiring, her victory speech is where it all began for the mother of three when it comes to making her mark in the industry.

In her tear-jerking winning words, Nadiya said: “I’m never, ever gonna put boundaries on myself ever again…. I’m never gonna say ‘I can’t do it’… I’m never gonna say ‘maybe’… I’m never gonna say, ‘I don’t think I can.’ I can and I will.”

John Whaite

Currently on screen as one of the few remaining couples on BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing, John has certainly found success since his winning moment on the show back in 2012.

John won the show while studying for a law degree in Manchester and has since gone on to gain a patisserie diploma for Le Cordon Bleu.

The Bake Off winner and Strictly star has also found himself a regular slot on Steph McGovern’s lunchtime show ‘Steph’s Packed Lunch’.

The 32-year-old has perfected his performance skills both in the kitchen and on the dance floor and will be competing for his spot in the final rounds of Strictly on Saturday evening with his dancing partner Johannes Radebe.

Briony Williams

Secondary school teacher turned Bake Off star, Briony found fame in the tent when she reached the semi-finals back in 2018.

While she may have lost top spot to winner Rahul Mandal, Briony has since gone on to join Channel 4’s Food Unwrapped team as a presenter on the food science show.

Briony has paved the way for contestants living with a disability to pursue their dream on the show, having been born with a birth defect that left her with one fully developed hand.

Since appearing on the Great British Bake Off, Briony has continued to pursue her baking talents and even went on to win the GBBO Christmas show in 2019.

Who has won each season of the Great British Bake Off?

The show has been a hit with the public, raking in millions of viewers over the last 12 series.

With the series 12 final airing this evening, a new winner is set to join the GBBO hall of fame – but who has won the show in the past?
