Neighbours actors Stefan Dennis and Alan Fletcher have teased how the long-running Australian soap is set to end.

Fans were left devastated earlier this year when it was announced the iconic soap was being axed after 37 years on screen.

And while loyal viewers were heartbroken over the news, the same could be said for the cast who have been forced to say goodbye to Ramsay Street.

Stefan made his first appearance as ruthless businessman Paul Robinson in the soap's very first episode in 1985 and has promised the ending is going to be "very happy."

The Aussie actor, 61, revealed: "It's going to be very happy. Neighbours is going to go out with a really good bang. It's going to go out with a feel-good ending. I personally believe the show deserves that."

"It's bad enough that it's been cut short, so, let's dignify it with the ending that it deserves, let's make everybody feel really good about the show and what it's done over nearly four decades," he added.

Stefan departed Neighbours in 1992 before returning for a short stint in 1993.

The actor returned to the role in 2004 and has remained on the soap ever since.

Speaking about the the upcoming ending, Stefan admitted he will be a "bloody mess" when it comes to it.

"I think the closer it gets to the end, the more that it will ignite and become, I think, more than emotional," he admitted.

Alan has played Karl Kennedy since 1994 and is the 3rd longest serving actor in an Australian television serial.

The 65-year-old teased what's in store for Karl as he revealed: "My character's past will come back to haunt him again."

He admitted that it was important that Neighbours "goes out with a bang" and gets "the ending it deserves."

Speaking about the upcoming television awards that are taking place just after Neighbours finishes, the actor confessed he hopes they pay "appropriate homage" to the iconic soap.

He said: "I mean, we were given a lifetime achievement award some time ago, so we've already been recognised.

"I think what would be ideal is we finish up, we all enjoy that sense of pride from being involved in something so iconic and then we can all go off and celebrate with all of our other work colleagues at the TV awards and celebrate with them, our achievement," Alan added.
