Where is The Dig filmed?
Suffolk
According to the East Anglian Daily Times: scenes shot for The Dig in Suffolk took place in the late autumn of 2019 and lasted one week.
One of the most notable locations is Bawdsey Ferry and Screen Suffolk’s Rachel Aldridge shared: “As soon as Simon [Stone, director] saw the Bawdsey Ferry he was absolutely set that was where he had to be."
The landscapes at RSPB’s Boyton Marshes are also featured in The Dig – including the prominent brick structure there which also featured in Ed Sheeran’s music video for hit track Castle on the Hill.
Filming in Suffolk is set to boost the town's finances and a production like The Dig can generate £11,500 spend in the local economy.
This will increase if it is multiplied by the ten days of filming, along with the revenue generated by fans who will look to visit Sutton Hoo once they have seen the film and restrictions have been lifted.
The camera also caught landscapes around Snape Maltings, Aldeburgh beach and Suffolk Wildlife Trust land.
Simon added: “You go to Suffolk once and visit the estuary lands and you see such a unique landscape, like a world that you just don't recognise as quintessentially English, and so I thought to myself this is a real opportunity to show a side of England that you don't usually see.
“As you see, it's constantly through the film. We keep cutting back to shots that were shot in the environment where it took place.”
Surrey
Principal photography for The Dig began began in Shackleford, a village in Surrey, United Kingdom in October 2019.
The town of Godalming in Surrey was one of the movie's filming locations, where a life-sized replica of the burial site was constructed.
The expensive residential town, known for its visual appeal, is located approximately 30 miles from London.

What is The Dig about?
The Dig re-enacts the discovery of the Sutton Hoo burial site, one of the most significant archeological discoveries, which can be found on the property of Edith Pretty.
Young widow Edith decided to contact the local archaeologist to dig up the mounds in her garden.
Assuming they were part of a huge old graveyard, it would turn out to be something completely different.
They would discover a massive Anglo-Saxon longship, and possibly the resting place of the ancient King Rædwald of East Anglia.
